If you have always wanted to learn to play the guitar after being dazzled by the many guitar musical pieces or certain players from either the classical world or rock arena or both, but have not taken the step to actual picking up the instrument and learning it because you have no inkling or basically do not know music theory, then I will say to you - do not worry about it at all because you can definitely learn how to play the guitar without any knowledge of musical theory. Even though I picked up the instrument with some background in music theory, at that point in time I had lost almost everything that I had previously learned during my time on the piano. And I hardly depended on what I did know, because as a guitar player, you have many tools at your disposal to really learn the instrument thoroughly, without any handicap and you can become a complete guitarist if you have dedication and discipline.

I have bought my fair share of guitar instructional DVDs as well as videos, and find them all very useful, and some of them I have never been able to find online, so do not just use free resources on the Internet as some investment on your guitar education will also be great.

Taking guitar lessons to learn to play guitar is also a viable option but I do not know if they are worth it since I have never taken a single direct instructional lesson before in my life. I depended on some online guitar lessons and some of them teach everything - from classical, jazz, rock to even country guitar so they were certainly great fun.
